Table fireplaces

Bio fireplaces and ethanol fireplaces have gained many enthusiastic fans in recent years. Fires from bio fireplaces blaze in numerous German living rooms or on patios. The fire in bio fireplaces is created by bioethanol, which is extracted from agricultural products and burns virtually smokelessly and soot-free. This allows bio fireplaces to be operated without a flue or chimney and can be placed in places in the home or garden where real fire was previously impossible.

The Fireplace Ordinance also does not apply to ethanol fireplaces if they are designed to burn no more than 0.5 liters of ethanol per fireplace. There are hardly any other legal requirements. This means there are virtually no limits to the design ideas of bio fireplace manufacturers. The consequences: Fire departments are increasingly reporting accidents involving bio fireplaces and ethanol fireplaces, in which users have sometimes suffered serious burns.

Your fire department advises:

When purchasing a bio fireplace, make sure that the burner or fuel cans of the ethanol fireplace are made of stainless steel and, if possible, made from a single piece. Other materials, such as regular sheet metal, can burn through. The stainless steel burner should also be placed in a sealed sheet metal tray to contain any spilled bioethanol.

A good bio fireplace has a double wall facing the wall. This keeps the heat inside the ethanol fireplace and prevents it from escaping to the wall.

If you're wary of cheap offers, check the solid construction of the bio fireplace. After all, it involves an open fire and temperatures of several hundred degrees.

Never add ethanol to a burning bio fireplace. Wait at least 20 minutes after the ethanol fireplace has gone out before refilling with fuel. Otherwise, ethanol vapors will be released, which could ignite in an explosion.

Never use any fuel other than ethanol or gel fuel for your bio fireplace. Spirits, barbecue lighters, or gasoline are unsuitable and can cause explosions.

Be careful not to spill any ethanol when filling your bio fireplace. If this does happen, do not light your ethanol fireplace. Instead, dry the spilled fuel first and wait a few minutes until any fumes have dissipated.

Place your bio fireplace at a sufficient distance from other furniture or curtains.

Make sure that the bio fireplace always burns out completely and that no ethanol remains in the burner and never leave your ethanol fireplace burning unattended.
